Early readers can be a great tool to help children gain confidence while they are learning to read.
The best kinds of early readers use very simple language, the same sentence each page with only one word changing and having a pictorial clue to the different word on each page.
In our Early Readers we stick to using the high frequency sight words as much as possible. We have chosen this because this style of early reader makes it more interesting for children to memorise these sight words that can not easily be phonetically sounded out.
It is important to note that recent research indicates that using readers alone is not enough to give children a solid foundation for reading and phonemic awareness is vital.
The first book we made with Matthew uses the sentence “I am in my” and we took photos of him in various things.
He loved it and it made it easy to engage him in his learning because it became fun and all about him.
